Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.
More on this from yours truly when Top 300 numbers come out, but it’s a promising start to 2013. Here’s hoping we keep seeing this type of success going forward.
– File this one under creative marketing, as The Mary Sue reports on AMC advertising The Walking Dead in Toronto’s Union Station in an ingenius way, having large zombie hands counting down to last night’s premiere by losing a finger each day (“this many days until the premiere!”). As someone who bridges the gap between advertising professional and comic journalist (or whatever you’d call me), I can’t help but love that effort.
– In sad news, The Beat reports on the ongoing saga of DC vs. Siegel in the rights of Superman, and as per usual DC continues to dominate the case as they have…well, the whole time. It’s a small tragedy, but if there is a silver lining, at least it seems like it has to be nearly over.
– In even sadder news, Bleeding Cool links to Don Rosa’s epilogue to the last Don Rosa Collection that was not allowed to appear in print. It’s obvious why – basically, Don Rosa, in his years of working on the Scrooge McDuck/Donald Duck/etc. etc. books never really got his due, and then he continuously got hosed by loophole after loophole. The biggest tragedy about all of the story is just how much Rosa clearly loves the characters he has worked with, and how poorly that’s turned out for him. While legality states that Rosa is on the side he belongs on, it’s still a damn shame to see.
– To end on a far less depressing note, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Kevin Tong produced a ridiculously great poster for Battle Royale for Mondo/Alamo Drafthouse. The only sad part is how insanely difficult it would be to get your hands on one of these babies when they go for sale. Check it out at Robot 6.
