Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.

– One thing that really amazes me about comic reviews is when people just talk about the plot of the comic, as if its plot defines the quality of the comic, and then completely omit the artist. It happens scary often, and yesterday, Declan Shalvey was asked about it. He gave it a great response, but the more interesting part was the massive discussion that took place next between Shalvey, Jeff Parker, Gabriel Hardman, Reilly Brown and more. It’s very well worth a read, and it makes me happy that generally we treat art as an equal component to comics because they are effectively that.
This might be a good time to mention that we have Artist August coming up, our month long feature focusing on the best artists in comics.
– Gerry Conway has asked fans for help. The way DC’s payment policies go for uses of past characters is explained in this post on Bleeding Cool, but the long and short of it is that if creators don’t submit requests for payment when their characters get used in a new project, either in film/television or in print, they don’t receive payment. So, Conway is asking fans to, when they see a character being used, submit a form to that character’s creator, so that the creative team can be paid for the usage. An interesting, if flawed, idea, for sure.
– I really dig both Brandon Graham and Marian Churchland’s work, and with some extra time on his hands, Graham shared some work they did together for a show at Amsterdam’s Gallery 33. It’s a great little insight into what looked like an amazing art show. Check it out.
