Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
DC Comics is home to many of the greatest male and female Super Heroes in the world. All our fans are incredibly important to us, and we understand that the messages on certain t-shirts are offensive. We agree. Our company is committed to empowering boys and girls, men and women, through our characters and stories. Accordingly, we are taking a look at our licensing and product design process to ensure that all our consumer products reflect our core values and philosophy.
It’s good that they responded to that, but hey guys, maybe hire a vice president of common sense and run those things by people before releasing things like that. Might be a good idea.
– Bleeding Cool suggests that “Guardians of the Galaxy” screenwriter will be writing a new Gamora solo comic series, and that it will be announced at NYCC. Seems feasible.
– In case you’re wondering, the new Mr. Fantastic – Miles Teller – insists that the new “Fantastic Four” film is completely different than previous versions. While it’d be easy to file this one under “no shit”, Teller talks about how they’re attempting to make it more grounded and real feeling than other kitschier comic movies, including a reference to “Dick Tracy”, which is nearly 25 years old. Less dated references would be a good start.
– Is DC planning on making a Kamandi comic? Seems highly likely, unless Tom Fowler’s kidding around, and I have to wonder how well that book would do. Let’s find out, shall we DC?
– I don’t know about you guys, but I’d totally buy Hip Hop Family Tree cards designed to look like the old Marvel Universe cards.
– I’m not always a big fan of Joe Quesada’s art, but this variant he did for “Star Wars” #1 is pretty, pretty good.
– Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest is getting so big, its 2014 version will be taking place in University of Phoenix stadium, aka the place the NFL team the Arizona Cardinals play. Not a bad plan for comic conventions that are outgrowing their nearby convention space. I like it.
– On Chris Ryall’s (IDW’s EIC) Tumblr, he hosts a process breakdown of the first page from the upcoming “Edward Scissorhands” comic, from a script by Kate Leth with art by Drew Rausch.
