Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.
I hope to hear good news soon too. I hope to hear that they are not even going to try and adapt this (Preacher is my favorite comic), or, at the very least, they’re not going to have DJ Caruso adapt this. My good news is preferred. Please listen to me Sony.
– Edgar Wright talks Ant-Man, and what he has to say I frankly love. He talks about how you can’t adapt 50 years of comics into one movie, and how he’s looking for a streamlined focus on getting to know the character in one film. I’m all about that. I’m of a belief that comic book movies shouldn’t strictly adapt stories. They should try and capture the spirit of their source materials, but past that, tell their own stories. I can’t wait to see what Wright comes up with.
– Disneyland will open a section called “Asgard” this fall, to tie in to the upcoming Thor: The Dark World film. I have nothing to add to this, save for the fact that I want to go to there.
– Remember yesterday when I was touting how you should buy the upcoming omnibus for Remender and friends’ Uncanny X-Force? Now, there’s another one to pre-order! Get your greasy mitts all over the upcoming Punisher MAX Omnibus that collects all of Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon’s awesome run. This is a book you want, especially if you missed it the first time.
– Johanna Draper Carlson over at Comics Worth Reading takes a look at the proliferation of variant covers these days, sharing that nearly half of this week’s releases are variants of some sort. This is a trend that I’ve noticed quite a bit lately, and something that at least partially has led to the boom in sales and speculation I’d imagine. Hopefully this isn’t like the last time comics went variant crazy, as that led to the huge downturn in comic sales and Marvel’s bankruptcy.
– Greg Pak shares a new preview of Eternal Warrior #1 over at his site, and shockingly for a comic from Pak, Trevor Hairsine and Valiant, it looks totally kick ass.
– Following up on news from last week’s Rundown: Mike Grell is doing much better, he’s recovering but won’t be able to make it to DragonCon. Rich at Bleeding Cool shares a write-up from Grell himself, and he seems in high spirits. Best of luck in your recovery Mike!
