– Matt Fraction is no fan of 50 Shades of Grey – and who can blame him? So, he decided to do something about it, and the message that it can send about some rather unsafe sex practices: during the opening weekend of the 50 Shades film, Fraction was donating – and doubling – all sales of t-shirts that he curated through Mighty Fine. When all was said and done, his charity of choice, Futures Without Violence, wound up with $4307.10 going into their pockets. In addition, he also donated an additional $1114.30 to the Signing Time Foundation – an organization Fraction got involved with when doing the “Hawkeye” sign language issue. Good job, Matt – you’re making us all proud.
– Dynamite has announced that Matt Wagner will be writing an entirely new take on “The Spirit,” starting in July. No artist has been named on the series just yet, but covers by Alex Ross, Eric Powell, and Wagner himself, are all in the offing.
– Dynamite has also announced a May crossover event, “Swords of Sorrow,” led by Gail Simone, which features many female characters in Dynamite’s stable, written by some of the biggest female talents in comics. Red Sonja, Vampirella and Dejah Thoris, Kato, Jungle Girl, Lady Rawhide, Jennifer Blood are all featured in the crossover, and some of the writers include G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, Nancy A. Collins, and Mairghread Scott.
– Morena Baccarin, late of Gotham, has been cast as the female lead in Deadpool – the exact role is still unknown as of now.
– Paul Cornell is set to write a Doctor Who crossover event for Titan, which will feature the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors. If I watched Doctor Who, I bet I’d be so into this.
– What do you do to prepare for a role playing Enchantress in the Suicide Squad film? If rumors can be trusted, you go into therapy. This seems to be a pretty clear case of not wanting to take your butcher’s word for what a t-bone steak looks like and, instead, sticking your head up a bull’s ass.
– And, finally, Fark.com founder Drew Curtis is running for governor or Kentucky – and to help raise funds, he is selling off his quite impressive collection of “Crisis on Infinite Earths” original art.
