The Rundown: January 26, 2017

– To start off, the recently greenlit X-Men TV pilot finds a director in X-men: Apocalypse’s Bryan Singer. This will be the first time Singer has directed a series since Battle Creek back in 2015. Singer will also be joined by writer Matt Nix whose past credits include Burn Notice and the new series APB.

– Meanwhile on the CW, Phil Klemmer promises the return of JSA related characters in upcoming episodes of Legends of Tomorrow. The golden age superhero team appeared in the first two episodes of the second season of the show. As well as another appearance by team member Obsidian later on in the episode “Compromised.” Klemmer promises to explore the history of the JSA and show audiences exactly what happened to its members.

Aquaman director James Wan posts the first group photo of the main cast. The photo shows Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Patrick Wilson with Wan at a table read for the film. Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.

Marvel’s Inhumans series is rumored to begin filming in Hawaii. On Twitter, Reel News Hawaii made a post claiming that Marvel production crews have arrived on the island state and are preparing to film several episodes all the way through June. There has been no confirmation from Marvel or any cast/crew announcements as of yet. The first two episodes of Marvel’s Inhumans are set to premiere in IMAX theaters on September 4th, 2017. While the show with debut on ABC on September 26th.

– Darby Pop publications opened their doors to hosts their third “Breaking into Comics” contest. The company is giving the opportunity to be a part of an upcoming comiXology release and part of the physical release of the “Side-Kicked” trade paperback.

– A new, free to attend comic convention makes it way to Havana, Cuba later this year. Convention company MAD Event Management will be teaming up with Cuba’s cultural agency, Paradiso, with the convention scheduled to take place on May 19th through the 21st in Havana. Both companies hope to announce more specific details about the Cuban Comic Expo over the next few months.

– Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger series has found its director. Secret Life of Bees director Gina Prince-Bythewood has been hired onto the Marvel show. She joins Daredevil alumni Joe Pokaski, who was previously confirmed as the series showrunner.

– A new Power Rangers mobile game is being released to coincide with the release of the new film in March. Power Rangers: Legacy War is a PVP fighting game that appears to follow in the vein of Marvel: Contest of Champions. From the preview it seems that players can collect characters from various incarnations of the long running franchise. Legacy War is being developed by Nway Games and comes out on March 24th.

Rogue One character Jyn Erso’s backstory will be explored in the upcoming Rebel Rising novel. The novel will be written by Beth Davis and will cover Erso’s earlier years, including her being raised by rebel leader Saw Gerrera.
