The Rundown: DC Celebrates Their Pride; Bendis & Marquez Tackle Iron Man; and more

Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– In support of Pride Month, DC invited Jase Peeples of The Advocate to give a brief overview of all the LGBT characters in the DCU. There are some major omissions (Wanda from “Sandman”? And for the record, DC proper was still publishing “Sandman” during ‘Game of You’. Also, is it just me or are they pretending “The Movement” never happened? That book had problems, sure, but a diverse cast was not one of them), but for the most part, it’s kind of an interesting overview not only of LGBT DC characters, but also of LGBT representation.

– Prolific pen man Brian Michael Bendis is teaming up with David Marquez again for Marvel’s all new and different “Invincible Iron Man.” It’s part of the All-New All-Different Marvel, which still has all the same Marvel titles you know and love. Apparently, Marvel also wants Iron Man to be their flagship character, to match the movie iteration of the character, I guess.

– Paleontologists have finally shown off the skeleton of a triceratops-like dinosaur they’ve nicknamed the Hellboy. Officially named regaliceratops peterhewsi, I will always call this the Hellboyosaurus.

– Speaking of “Sandman,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt provides an update on the film’s development progress.

Noelle Stevenson sits down with Van Jensen to discuss character creation and design. It’s a great conversation about her work for herself, work for hire, and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

– Our very own Jess Camacho was the guest host on Comicosity’s “The Hangout” last week.

– This August, Marvel will feature variants from manga artists for all their books, featuring work by Yusuke Murata and a ton of other people who haven’t been announced yet. Considering they’ve already crossed over “The Avengers” with “Attack on Titan,” I’m more surprised it’s taken Marvel this long to start courting this Market.

– In Webcomics Worth Clicking: Lars Brown’s “Penultimate Quest” features characters caught in a never-ending cycle of dungeon raids and regenerations. It’s hysterical and also touching. Brown’s black and white linework is superb, too.

– And finally, the results are in for our Friday poll. The question was: How excited are you for the All New, All Different Marvel, and 32% of you were excited for the announcements, though tired of the constant restarts. 31% of you, though, were all about this announcement. Some of you (21%) thought that some of the projects looked good, but overall weren’t that interested. And finally, 16% of you were like, “This is not at all appealing.” Check back this Friday for our next question!
