This new Boom! Studios book – “Power Up” – from Kate Leth and Matt Cummings looks like a lot of fun. It finds three people and one goldfish who are unexpectedly bestowed superpowers and, as it tends to happen, then forced to square off against great evil. Isn’t it that how it always is? I gotta admit, if I ever got superpowers a big part of me would be like, “Oh god, what next?!” after I got over the fact I had superpowers. Regardless of my concerns behind gaining superpowers, this book looks really great, is all-ages friendly, and drops in July. I’m in.

– Kim Coates of “Sons of Anarchy” fame has himself a new gig, as he’ll be starring in an adaptation of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham’s “Officer Downe” as the titular character. I’m not overly familiar with his work, but MCer Brandon Burpee is all in on it, so I’m down.

– Another “Secret Wars” tie-in has been revealed, as there will be a “Ghost Racers” – that’s right, not Ghost Rider – book from Felipe Smith and Juan Gedeon. It’s set to star Robbie Reyes, and like the book that previously starred him and was written by Smith, looks like a lot of fun.

This piece from Philly.com is a very interesting look at online comics retailer Jim Drucker and his shop NewKadia.com. It’s an interesting look at blending a good business idea with very fortunate timing with the upswing of comics. It’s an interesting little piece.

– A man has died apparently from being uppercutted by Batman. Or at least that’s what his family had said in Stephen Merrill’s obituary in The Ledger, as he was a long time comic fan. One has to wonder if DC will have an issue with that, but as it currently stands, it’s a nice touch for a long time fan.
