Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– Gwar has a long and storied history with comics, and so it is with sadness that we report the death of Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, lead singer of the famously costumed metal band. If you are unfamiliar with them, a great primer on who they are, in terms of musical style and sense of humor can be found in their two covers for The A.V. Club’s Undercover series. RIP Oderus.
– James Gunn shared, via Instagram, a picture of Karen Gillen in full makeup as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, and the transformation is quite striking.
– David James Kelly has been hired to write the new Wolverine movie. His body of work is small, but he has been attached to both a “Mind MGMT” film and a Daredevil script, so comics are clearly in his blood.
– The first official image of Alred from Gotham has been released, and it looks okay. I think Alfred is probably a little too old here, but that’s a minor nitpick.
– Steve Niles and Damien Wormhave announced a new IDW ongoing series, “The October Faction.” The book is described as:
“The lead character is Fredrick Allan, a retired monster hunter who is now teaching Monsters & Mythology while he hides from 30 years of enemies. His heyday was in the 70’s, so October Faction will flashback to those 70’s monster hunting days,” said series writer Niles, “The main thread is about this man who is trying to get to know his family for the first time ever. Unfortunately, while he has neglected his wife she’s become a pill-popping thrill-killer. His two children, just turned 19 and 20, are starting to piece together who their father is and also whether or not he is their real father.”
– Greg Pak, Charles Soule, and Scott Lobdell insist, yet again, that they are not re-telling the “Death of Superman.”
– And, finally, TNA (the non-WWE pro-wrestling organization with a national television show) wrestlers Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are meeting the characters of the “Aw Yeah”-verse in the new miniseries “Christopher Daniels and Kazarian Wrestling Aw Yeah Comics!”
