Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.
– 211,000+ sold copies of Guardians of the Galaxy?!?! DAMNNNNNNN!!! Multiple covers, movie buzz, speculator buzz, the creative team…whatever. That’s a monster month, no matter the reason. Is it going to drop hugely next month? Totally. But wow. What a kick off. I have to say this makes it even more of a shame DnA’s incredible run didn’t sell well.
– Between the first issue of Age of Ultron and the third issue, 74,000+ less copies were ordered. In the same month of orders. How does that make sense?!?!
– 12 months later, Saga sells more than 13,000 more copies with its eleventh issue than its first. In an industry that mostly sees #1 sales open big and quickly dwindling from there, Saga’s growth has been nothing short of incredible.
– Speaking of incredible numbers from Image books, how about East of West opening at #35 with over 49,000 copies sold? Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta’s book is a gigantic success and the biggest Image launch I can remember in forever, and a hat tip to them for creating such a buzzy book and to Image for taking a chance and making this book returnable, which surely drove sales.
– Is Marvelman coming? In Newsarama‘s interview with Axel Alonso, he said in regards to the potential arrival of the character:
There has been progress. Considerable progress. And we’ll be making an announcement soon.
I’m a huge fan of Marvelman. I’m very excited about seeing him being published by Marvel.
Well there you go! Coming soon!
– Over at Blastr, they have a news story about Mike Mingola and his thoughts about a third Hellboy movie. People have taken things Mignola has said about a third movie as him not wanting one. According to him? Not true. It’s an interesting article, with word direct from Mignola’s web page. Definitely worth a read.
