Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– After making the rounds earlier this month, Marvel has confirmed that Mike Colter, late of American Horror Story, will be playing Luke Cage on AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Defenders on Netflix. I am not familiar with Colter’s work, but he certainly has the look that one would expect from Cage. There is no announced start date for filming or release date for the series yet.
– According to a piece on Vulture, Wonder Woman, despite being announced, given a release date, and has a director attached, has not formally been greenlit. I don’t know exactly what that means, in terms of the chances it actually happens, but I can’t imagine this falling through. That said, stranger things have happened both on DC’s and Hollywood’s watch.
– A Reddit user with supposed insider knowledge claims that Deathstroke will be a major player in Suicide Squad, while also providing some basic plot details. There is very little to really chew on here, but the proposed plot does sound plausible, and would explain the Joker’s presence in a relatively logical way.
– According to director James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy was set to have Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s post-credit sequence, and the introduction of Howard the Duck in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a second option. File this under “well, duh.”
– Scott Derrickson, director of the upcoming Doctor Strange, tweeted out this unofficial image of star Benedict Cumberbatch, later revealed to be fan art, and send a certain portion of the internet into a tizzy.
– Speaking of the various Marvel and DC films, a fake trailer has been created for the crossover film that will never happen. While I can applaud the hard work that went into making this, I can also say that I have no idea why so many comics sites posted this as news.
– Francis Manupal has drawn the cover for the new “DC Essential Graphic Novels and Chronoogy” – CBR has the first look.
– And, finally, George R.R. Martin had some interesting demands for what it would take for him to write a story at Marvel. It really must be seen to be believed.
