Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– According to the industry leader in comics and film news, OK Magazine, Marvel Studios has interest in Angelina Jolie directing Captain Marvel. So interested, in fact, that they have offered a rumored $20 million. This would be a huge boon for Marvel, from a PR standpoint, but whether or not Jolie is interested is a whole other question.
– IDW has been straight up killing it on their licensed properties as of late – yesterday, it was announced that Hasbro has re-upped with the publisher for an undisclosed amount of time. This ensures that properties like My Little Pony, GI Joe, and Transformers will remain at IDW, where they have been thriving.
– Patrick Stewart, in an interview with Oregon Live, revealed two bits of news about the upcoming X-Men film slate: apparently, Stewart is set to appear in the as-yet-untitled third solo Wolverine film as a co-lead. In addition, he claims that Ian McKellan will be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, which somewhat flies in the face of what has been reported about the film thus far. Time will tell, I suppose.
– Six to eight actresses have been put on a (not so) short list for the female lead in the Ryan Reynolds-starring Deadpool film, including Orange is the New Black‘s Taylor Shilling.
– Another day, another couple of “Secret Wars” tie-in books announced: Chris Yost and Amilcar Pinna are bringing us “M.O.D.O.K.: Assassin,” starring everyone’s favorite evil and secret Avenger, and Garth Ennis and Russ Braun are on “Where Monsters Dwell,” starring Phantom Eagle. This marks a big week for Ennis, comics wise, as his return to DC was also announced last week, penning “Secret Eight” for the distinguished competition.
– You want more M.O.D.O.K. news? You’ve got it! Human M.O.D.O.K. Kevin Smith (in his case, Mook something something something Klerks) will be voicing him on the Marvel Experience live tour.
– The first trailer for the new line of Batman animated films, Batman Unlimited, debuted on CBR yesterday. The animation style is quite reminiscent of Young Justice, and the cast is extremely DC-TV friendly.
– In a very wise move, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is popping up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. again, with Lady Sif (Jamie Alexnader) making a second appearance on the show, this time suffering from short-term memory loss.
– Ben Templesmith, soon to be wrapping up his time on “Gotham by Midnight,” announced to his mailing list that his next project would be an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s Dagon.
– Could Arrow‘s Diggle be Justice League‘s Green Lantern? Supposedly, that may be the case. I love David Ramsay on Arrow, but he doesn’t strike me as John Stewart. We shall see.
– Speaking of DC TV, rumor has it that Emily Kinney, late of The Walking Dead, will be playing the Bug-Eyed Bandit on The Flash later this season.
– And, finally, it appears that DC’s ‘Convergence’ books and tie-ins will feature 8-page previews of their new series launching in June. As reported by Bleeding Cool at DC’s retailer meeting, these are not the first eight-pages of the books, but rather new, stand along stories that will also be available online, and eventually in the collected editions of the books. Bravo, DC.
