Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– There have been rumblings of this before, but the rumors are getting louder and louder: could Namor star in one of Marvel’s 2016 films? Nerdist compiles the details, including a report from the somehow always rumor-heavy Latino Review. Namor is a tricky character to get right, tone wise, and you’d need an actor who is ok walking around dressed like a pro wrestler in a speedo for months at a time. We’re talking D’Angelo “Untitled (How Does It Feel?)” shape, here.
– Get used to this folks: for the next year and a half, we’re going to be hearing Star Wars rumors just about every day, but these two seemed big enough to report. According to Bleeding Cool, we may be getting an “original” – aka non-Special Editions – Star Wars Trilogy Blu-Ray/DVD set sooner than later. This is among the best news I’ve heard in a very long time. The other part of the post is very interesting, and that involves a de-valuing of the Prequel Trilogy, relegated it to minor or, if you follow the rumor all the way, non-canon status. I doubt very much the latter with happen, but I do think you’ll see less and less Prequel focus from Disney.
– John “Malcolm Merlyn” Barrowman is joining Arrow as a regular cast member next season, which was broken by Stephen Amell’s tweet. Where does that guy get off being so cool and charming, am I right?
– I know we have a vested interest this year, but even if we didn’t, this piece on the Eisner judges would still be a great, interesting read.
– On Wednesday, June 11, retailers will be giving out Marvel “Young Guns 2014” samplers, featuring some of their young, up and coming artists (including Multiversity favorites Mahmud Asrar and Valerio Schiti). Bleeding Cool has a peak at the sampler, and kudos to Marvel for highlighting some of their younger talent.
– Details are emerging about the Geoff Johns Green Lantern Omnibus Vol. 1, which will feature from “Rebirth” to “Sinestro Corps War,” aka, the best stretch of Green Lantern stories ever.
– CBR does a really nice job talking about Peggy Carter, and just how odd of a character she is to have a revival in 2014.
– IDW is launching a comic based on the videogame “Skylanders,” written by Ron Marz with Mike Bowden and David Baldeon on art.
– And, finally, if you’re anything like me, you like to get your movie previews from GIFs nowadays. If, so, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has you covered!
