– Nick Cardy, legendary artist and Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame member, passed away last night. Known for his brilliant work at DC on books like Aquaman and Teen Titans (whom he co-created), Cardy is one of those creators that don’t get talked about that often today, but you can see his influence each and every week when you go to your local comic book shop. Rest in peace Nick, and do yourself a favor and explore his work if you never have.

– In an attempt to cruelly dupe viewers to watch bad television, Marvel revealed that the Nov. 19 episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will tie into the ending of “Thor: The Dark World”. The team “picks up the pieces” from what happened, and what transpires threatens the life of one of the eminently forgettable characters from the cast. Much cooler is the fact that Riker himself is directing the episode – Jonathan Frakes. I’d probably have preferred if he turned the camera around on himself and just responded to takes for 43 minutes, but, you know, a Thor tie-in is neat I guess.

– Publishers Weekly named their five favorite comics of the year, and there are some damn fine choices on the list. In particular, holy crap you guys, Gene Luen Yang’s Boxers & Saints is astoundingly great, and Jeff Smith’s RASL is of course excellent. Check out the list and share your thoughts on their picks in the comments.

– Sina Grace is packing around tremendously awesome, NES style Burn the Orphanage shirts for his tour in December, and if you want one – whether he’s coming to your city for his tour or not – you better get onboard ASAP. He’s only making so many, and given the absolute raditude of this shirt, you had best pre-order one right now. Also, pre-order Burn the Orphanage because science has proven Sina Grace is awesome. Daniel Freedman is pretty great too.

– Drawn & Quarterly is releasing a retrospective on the work of “Maus” cartoonist Art Spiegelman, and the fine folks over at Boing Boing have debuted an excerpt from the book. In particular, they’ve released an essay by J. Hoberman looking into the work of Spiegelman, and it’s certainly worth a read – as the whole book likely is.

– Not only is Fables ending, Bill Willingham revealed that Fairest will be ending the month before it. That’s far less sad, but hey, that book has some gorgeous covers.
