Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– Tom Cavanagh, best known as playing the titular character on the NBC dramedy Ed, has been cast as Harrison Wells on the CW’s Flash pilot. Wells is a new character, not found in the comics, who was mentioned during the Barry Allen-guesting Arrow episodes that launched this prospective pilot. I’m a big fan of Cavanagh’s acting, so here’s to hoping he’s a recurring character and not just a one time character.
– Bleeding Cool has confirmation that, starting in May, there will be a new Spider-Man series. They put the odds on “All-New Superior Spider-Man” or “Spider-Man 2099,” but I think we all know what’s going on: the long overdue return of “Peter Porker, Spider-Ham.”
– This is a very cool story: a fan, going by the name of Murch, bought a piece of Ryan Ottley original artwork. It was to be the cover for “Image United Interlude” #1 – but the book never happened. What did happen was Murch sought out the other artists who were supposed to participate in the cover: Mike Allred, Marat Mychaels, Paul Grist and Dale Keown. Keown was the last one to participate, but now we have the complete cover. I wonder if Murch will get it colored…
– Eliot Hochberg, video editor for “Never Not Funny,” the best non-Multiversity podcast out there, has created a video/motion comic out of “God’s End,” the Superman-based webcomic by Gerardo Preciado and illustrated by Daniel Bayless. Hochberg also created a video for the same team’s “Batman: The Deal.” Check them out!
– Our pal Tradd Moore reveals a whole slew of design and process pieces for his new “All-New Ghost Rider” series over at Newsarama. Is it March yet?
– Noelle Stevenson did a webcomic about her experiences at comic shops. It is a sad, puzzling, amazingly frustrating reality of how many shop owners treat women.
– DC has revealed all 22 of their Robot Chicken variants for March. I’m particularly fond of the “The Flash” one. It is weird how DC capitalizes on its fun side by doing these sort of variants, but allows no fun inside the covers.
– For all you Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers fans out there: Jason Frank, the Green Ranger, now holds the Guinness Book of World Records entry for breaking seven pine wood boards while skydiving. Yup.
– Today’s best interview goes to Duane Swierczynski, who issues a judgement on every Judge Dredd question CBR asked him. Well played, Duane.
– And, finally, for all you lovers out there – try to track down these Batman valentines from 1966 before Friday to win the heart of that crush you just don’t know how to approach. Surely a super creepy Mr. Freeze teasing his frozen wife will melt the heart of anyone!
