Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.

– io9 shares a little bit from the old rumor mill, as word is percolating that Robert Downey, Jr. is trying to get his friends Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson into the Marvel universe, particularly roles in the “Avengers” films. They walk readers through why this is unlikely, and it’s certain to be unpopular if it happened given how little the two do these days and, you know, Gibson’s rather unique views on things. That said, unpopular opinion alert: if they needed an OG Nick Fury, Gibson could be a rather kick ass one. Never happen, but it is an interesting rumor that, if true, would test Downey’s might in the Marvel world.

– Kaare Andrews shows up in a new Marvel teaser, which has the word “Weapon” appear and the date April 2014. I have no idea what this might be, but KAARE ANDREWS. Hell yes!

– Danny Cannon, a seasoned veteran of the TV game who directed the premiere of “CSI”, will be helming the pilot for Fox’s “Gotham”. Personally, I’m not really impressed by his filmography, but hey, who knows. This could turn out great, I just hope it’s not mondo generic like “CSI”.

– A younger version of Toad is set to appear in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. This huge cast continues to get bigger, even though they already announced Rogue’s scene will no longer make the cut.

– ICv2 shares the BookScan Top 20 Graphic Novels of December 2013, and Image totally dominates, taking the top four spots and nine of the top twenty. These are the books that are sold in bookstores and shows that Image is doing incredibly well outside of the direct market.

– Jesse Young, Ryan Cody and Thomas Mauer released a short comic called “The Daring Adventures of Android Jones” on Young’s site (for free!), and it is well worth a read, especially for Cody’s exceptional art.

– Ryan Browne did art for a Valentine’s Day sale t-shirt for Challenger’s Comics + Conversation in Chicago, and it’s pretty fantastic.
