The Rundown: Scott Snyder on Changes to “Batman” Timeline, Could a Justice League Vs. X-Men Movie Really Happen, and more

– Scott Snyder spoke to Newsarama about “Batman,” post-Zero Year, and there were a number of interesting points brought up, especially that, as of August, the book’s timeline will take place after “Batman Eternal.” As Snyder points out:

So there are going to be a lot of things that are shocking, that you realize… “Whoa! How did that happen?”

And you’re going to have to go see Eternal to figure out how things came to be the way they are.

Also discussed in the article is Snyder’s excitement about the “renaissance” the Bat books are going through, which he attributes to new editor Mark Doyle, how #34 will be co-written by Gerry Duggan, to help set up “Arkham Manor,” and that “Endgame” is his “biggest” Bat-story yet, which has been the case for each story he has told, it seems. That’s not a knock; that’s a testament to exactly how epic of a storyteller Snyder has become.

– Ok, so before y’all jump down my throat – this is a long shot. But, it is a crazy possibility, nonetheless. Fox has made an eighty billion dollar bid (which was rejected) to purchase Time Warner, which includes – you guessed it – DC Comics, as well as their film and television rights. Fox already has the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises on film, so if this merger were to go through, there would be, theoretically, a better shot of Wolverine showing up in Justice League than in Avengers 3. This is the world we live in now, folks.

– In a move that we usually see going the other way, DC has hired former Marvel editor Tom Brennan. This is great news, as Brennan worked on two of my favorite Marvel books of the past few years, “Superior Foes of Spider-Man” and “Wolverine and the X-Men.” Welcome to the competition, Tom!

– The Beat put up a pretty incredible article by retailer Brandon Schatz about the “Death of Archie” – if you care about the business side of comics, this is a must read.

– The Harvey Award nominations have come out, and boy do they have a Harv-on for “Quantum and Woody.” That’s a lot of nominations, you guys.

– The writing team behind The Amazing Spider-Man 2 split earlier this year, and it appears that they have new franchises to work on – Orci with the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, and Kurtzman with a shared universe Universal Monsters films.

– Clay Mann has gone exclusive to Valiant – congrats, Clay!

– The voice cast for Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, the new Aquaman-centric DC Animated feature has been revealed, and it features a lot of returning cast from their prior films, but added Matt Lanter, Anakin Skywalker from The Clone Wars, in the Aquaman role.

Arrow, season 3, will “explore” the Ollie/Felicity romance. That sound you hear is a million nerd boners popping at once in a cacophony of repression and joy.

– And, finally, this is perhaps the single best image to sum up the changes in the TMNT franchise, film wise.
