– We’re getting soooo close to the most exciting/harrowing time on the comics calendar: the SPX table lottery! Invited guests will be notified by the end of the month, then beginning February 1st everyone gets a chance to throw their hat into the ring and hope that it’s their lucky day. It’s a pretty neat system, the results of which being that legendary cartoonists and first-time exhibitors end up tabling along side one another. The Small Press Expo will take place September 19-20 in Bethesda, MD.

– This week fans of CW’s “Arrow” will be getting their first look at Katie Cassidy as The Black Canary. Well, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance as The Black Canary. There’s already a clip out there, and everyone seems pretty excited. Me, I’m still waiting on The Ape Archer to make an appearance.

– I loves me some newsprint anthologies! They’re a great way of showcasing local comics talent, as well as foster a sense of community amongst readers and contributors. Here in Philadelphia we used to have “Secret Prison,” Brooklyn’s got “Smoke Signal,” and down in DC they have “Magic Bullet.” Over the weekend the cover to “Magic Bullet” #10 was revealed on the DC Conspiracy Tumblr. The only bit of information that accompanied the art by Matt Dembicki was that the tenth issue of the free anthology series would be, “available on the streets of Washington DC very very soon.” So folks in the Mid-Atlantic area should keep an eye open when they head to shops over the next few weeks.

– Hey, Todd McFarlane wants to make it known that he will never again have any interest in drawing comics for Marvel or DC. It’s nothing against those companies, you see, it’s just that as president of Image Comics, it may be a conflict of interest. Unless, of course, either company would like to have a Spawn cross-over. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
