Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– This weekend, in addition to being Easter and Passover, was also WonderCon, and while a few little tidbits of news sneaked out, this was by far the biggest one: IDW and DC are bringing us a Star Trek/Green Lantern team up comic! In July, “Star Wars/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War,” written by Mike Johnson and illustrated by Angel Hernandez, the story is set in the 23rd century, and will feature, if the cover is to be believed, Hal Jordan and the original crew of the Enterprise. Consider us excited!
– A new international trailer for Fantastic Four has been released, and while it features a lot of the same footage, there are some interesting elements, mainly a flying (?!) Sue Storm. The film drops in August.
– In addition to the Star Trek/Green Lantern announcement, IDW also dropped a few fun announcements at the con, including a Drive comic from Michael Benedetto and artist Antonio Fuso, an adaptation of “The Seven Percent Solution,” a non-canon Sherlock Holmes story by the creative team of writers Scott and David Tipton, artist Ron Joseph and covers by Kelley Jones, and a new “Powers” tabletop game.
– Valiant also released a few fun announcements this weekend, from the wedding of X-O Manowar to the further teasing of their “Book of Death.”
– While not quite as egregious as the Special Editions on screen, the “Special Edition” of the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope graphic novel messes with something that didn’t need the slightest bit of messing. Sigh.
– And, finally, Molly Mahan, formerly of Dynamite, is a new Vertigo assistant editor. Congrats on the move, Molly!
