Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.
– Josh Fialkov and Carmine di Giandomenico are taking over as writer and artist of Ultimate Comics Ultimates, and I couldn’t be happier. Both of them are seemingly really good people, and they’re both hugely talented as well. Congrats to the both of them!
– Robot 6 shares a snippet from a Charlie Adlard interview over at CBR, and it’s an awesome insight into what makes The Walking Dead (comic) work, and what makes Adlard such a cool dude.
“I just think what he does is really brave. He really loves these characters as well, and it makes it unique that we’re able to do this. We could literally kill Rick at some point. I’m not going to say we are, but why not kill him? There’s no reason. The Walking Dead could easily survive without Rick, and I personally think it would be incredibly interesting. We could do it in some random issue where the reader isn’t expecting it, not like issue #150 or some anniversary issue. I think it would be very cool.”
– Newsarama has details on a new Daredevil anthology series, titled “Dark Nights,” and how its first three issue arc will come as artist Lee Weeks’ first foray into full out cartooning a book. Congrats to Lee – the dude is mega gifted – and keep an eye on this book when it comes in the summer.
– Dennis Culver wins the contest for best points about ComiXology going down.
I think Culver couldn’t be more on point, and it’s an underrated aspect of the whole fiasco. Granted, I once worked at a booth at the Alaska State Fair that happened to be giving away cheap jar openers and they were gleefully snagged by random people like I was giving away free money, so free tends to drive people to get things they wouldn’t usually get. That said, I think there is a certain level of truth to what Culver has to say.
– Finally, in non comic news but totally awesome news no less, everyone’s favorite sea otter lookalike – Benedict Cumberbatch – revealed that he isn’t just signed on to film another series of the BBC’s Sherlock (also known as the awesomest show ever), but at least TWO more series. Join me in popping a bottle of bubbly to celebrate.
