Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– In an interview at ICv2 with DC co-publishers Jim Lee and Dan Didio, Lee shared that they’re looking to “rebrand” the Vertigo imprint in early 2015 with a “hit list of the top creators in the business”, and I have to say, I’m all in. Not that long ago I wrote about their march towards irrelevance as a publisher in the wake of Image taking over the creator-owned market and some of their biggest books either wrapping or announcing their end, but this sounds like they’re going to dedicate serious effort towards it. I’m curious if that involves altering their creator-owned deal, as I’ve heard it’s not as…advantageous as Image’s one, but that’s a detail I doubt we’ll ever hear about.
– Warner Bros. new digital division Blue Ribbon Content announced a new live action “Static Shock” project, which is cool but strangely perfect considering their up-and-down relationship with the property. Here’s hoping good things come out of it.
– Apparently DC is encouraging its creative teams as a whole to think individually as they approach their books after whatever is coming in April, which I think is hilarious because there’s nothing funnier than a mass directive to think outside the box. But hey, yay “Gotham Academy” and “Batgirl” for changing things!
– Marvel’s earning another good guy, as they roll out a new hearing-impaired hero named Sapheara in a comic conceived by Marvel Custom Solutions and the Children’s Hearing Institute of New York for 150,000 kids in grades 3 through 7 in New York City. Great stuff.
– My guy Charlie Cox talks playing Daredevil, and you should read it because Charlie Cox is a badass.
