– I’m sure some people out there were doubting that The Walking Dead spin-off wasn’t going to get picked up, but I wasn’t one of them, and my faith in AMC’s desire to print money paid off, as today a report surfaced that the still-unnamed spin-off was given a two season commitment by the network. This is a bold move, but a relatively unsurprising one.
– After a few months of rumors, Joel Kinnaman, aka Robocop from the 2014 remake, has joined the cast of Suicide Squad, presumably in the Rick Flagg role abandoned by Tom Hardy.
– Over at TV Line, there is a reported casting sheet for the new CW superhero show – the one supposedly starring Brandon Routh as the Atom, as well as a series of The Flash and Arrow characters – and there are three quite mysterious descriptions: The Mystery Hero, the Female Warrior, and the Traveler. My guesses, in order: John Stewart, the Yolanda Montez Wildcat, and Rip Hunter.
– According to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, Marvel Studios will not be at San Diego Comic Con this summer. IGN thinks they know why: Star Wars.
– More new Marvel/Secret Wars books: a Groot ongoing, a Skottie Young Little Marvels book, and a “Ms. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos” title.
– BOOM! Studios launched a “Push Comics Forward” initiative earlier this year, and while it was met with some enthusiasm, it was also met with some backlash, as most things in the comics world tend to be. The folks at BOOM! spoke with CBR to discuss some of the controversies and address them head on.
– And, finally, Veneta Rogers at Newsarama looks at sites like Humble Bundle and Loot Crate, and their effect on generating new readers.
