Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– Marvel has a deal right now that if you buy the upcoming .NOW issues digitally for many of their titles, you also get the first arcs of said comic for free, including on titles like Avengers, All-New X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy. I really cannot emphasize how great of an idea I feel this is. It’s brilliant. Honestly, it gives readers a jumping on point AND gives them more reason to go back and buy the rest of the series. I can’t believe they just thought of this, and love that they’re doing it. It’s basically the inverse of their pricing plan for their first volume hardcovers.
– There’s a trailer now for 300: Rise of an Empire, the sequel to Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s comic series. If you’re into that sort of thing.
– Speaking of Zack Snyder, Charlie Jane Anders at io9 shares why she doesn’t want to see his take on Wonder Woman.
– The Fifth Beatle, a recent OGN that is rather beloved around these parts, is being adapted by director Peyton Reed (Bring It On, The Break-Up) for film. There will be a number of really excited people around these parts because of that announcement.
– Rob Liefeld gets hyped about the X-Force script. If you can trust anyone to be realistic about the quality of a movie script, it’s certainly the guy who wrote and illustrated part of Hawk and Dove’s New 52 run.
– Has a comic creator ever made the cover of Playboy before? I’m not sure, but we can say one has now, as Joe Casey’s name graces the cover (and work appears inside) of the 60th Anniversary issue along with an array of other notables, including Kate Moss. Way to go Joe!
