– Call it the Vin Diesel corollary: self promotion and campaigning for a role in a superhero film can work. Or, so thinks Tyrese Gibson. Gibson took to his Instagram, showing off multiple images of himself in the John Stewart role, hoping to be cast as DC’s next cinematic Green Lantern. While I do think that John Stewart will be the Green Lantern of the next film, I have never really considered Gibson for the role; I suppose it doesn’t matter if I considered him, the question is whether Warner Bros. has. Stay tuned to see if any other of his The Fast and the Furious co-stars (aside from Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel) get superhero film roles.
– While at Sundance promoting not-Aquaman, Jason Momoa had a few things to say about his role as Arthur, King of the Seas. This is what he had to say about Zach Synder’s plan for the character:
His idea is pretty amazing. When I went in, he told me – my jaw kind of dropped. My jaw doesn’t normally drop. What he has planned for the DC world and definitely for Aquaman is something that, you know – I think I was brought on for a certain reason and they got some really cool plans for him. I’m really excited for everyone to see it.
– Marvel’s ‘Last Days’ banner is yet another “Secret Wars” designation, and “Loki: Agent of Asgard,” “Captain America and the Mighty Avengers,” and “Magneto” will carry the banner. These stories are set to the tell the ‘final’ stories of these characters within the current continuity. Is that Marvel-speak for cancelled? Methinks that might be the case.
– Warren Ellis compares his new “Project Superpowers: Blackcross” book for Dynamite to “The Authority,” in terms of the inspiration coming from the research that he did that led to that book 20 years ago. Well, color me interested.
– And, finally, Topless Robot looks at the ranks of the X-Men, and identifies 14 characters that still deserve a Marvel Legends action figures. Somewhere, MC podcaster Brandon Burpee is screaming at a computer screen, asking “WHERE IS MAGGOT?”
