Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– What’s it like to be a man in comics? Heidi McDonald answers that question as she looks at the recent events that transpired after Janelle Asselin posted the frankly insane responses that came her way after she analyzed a Brett Booth “Teen Titans” cover, and the idea that men inexplicably and horribly use rape as a power play over women in comics. It’s a good read that covers every aspect of the topic, but honestly, how are people so upset over defending a “Teen Titans” cover? That’s maybe the most crazy element to me. Okay, maybe not, but seriously. It’s “Teen Titans”.
– Apparently Channing Tatum isn’t just a pie in the sky hope for Fox as they attempt to make a “Gambit” movie. Tatum told MTV that not only is he aware of the character, but he loves the guy AND is into the idea of playing him. I know a lot of people hate him, but to that I say “21 Jump Street” and his role as the gimp in “This is the End”. That dude is fearless and can be a great actor. I hope it happens.
– Cliff Chiang talks about the supremely awesome “The Bat-Man” series that he and Brian Azzarello were going to do for Vertigo Comics that never happened. I can say that I’m truly sad that it never did, even if it did lead to their work on the New 52’s “Wonder Woman”.
– Good news everyone! That “True Detective”/”Family Circus” mash-up you have been dying to see has finally been brought to life with “Time is a Flat Circus” on Tumblr.
– File this one under maddening: Jeff Smith’s brilliant series “Bone” was the tenth most banned book in 2013. Because of racism, political viewpoint and violence! What?!
