Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email me at david@multiversitycomics.com.

– In something that was suspected to be coming for a while now, Winter Soldier is being canceled with #19. While this book has been quality throughout, first in the care of Ed Brubaker and Butch Guice and now in the hands of Jason Latour and Nic Klein, its sales have decreased throughout to the point where the writing was sort of on the wall. Clearly, Latour was both upset and a little surprised by the news, and we’re bummed out for it to get canceled if only because Latour was doing such a good job with the character and he clearly had a passion for it. Latour will assuredly continue to do well in the industry, but it’s still a bummer he doesn’t get to work with a character he clearly loves.

Especially considering Bleeding Cool’s theory (which was preceded by MC’s Brandon Burpee touting this from the rooftops) that Marvel intends to relaunch this book in Marvel Now! Wave 2. This would be unsurprising, as the Winter Soldier movie is on the horizon and it was a character that lost almost all tangible connection to the rest of the Marvel universe. A reboot is a logical next step, and I would not be surprised to see it come.

– For those that were stoked on the idea of Christopher Nolan guiding the DC film universe, we’ve got bad news for you: he’s not. That said, Warner Bros. did confirm that the upcoming “Man of Steel” is the first shot in a salvo of films to develop the DC film universe, so we’re getting it, Nolan or no Nolan.

– Have you wondered why we hadn’t heard anything about Kieron Gillen and Ryan Kelly’s “Three” from Image? If so, we have an answer for you: Ryan Kelly will be drawing three parts of Brian Wood’s “Star Wars,” which is totally cool! First off, we love the two of them working together. Second off, who doesn’t want to see Kelly work on a property like that? Totally awesome.

– Matt Fraction is pretty great about giving people insight into how he works, and he does just that with an inside look at Hawkeye #9. Spoilers are contained there.

Obvs.

– In a little home state news for yours truly, Kate Beaton and Scott C., cartoonists of some fame, are going to be in Juneau, Alaska doing workshops and all kinds of cool things with the friendly dudes at Alaska Robotics. If you’re in the area, check it out! If you’re not, be envious (like I am).
