Via The Beat, Lambda Literary Award-nominee Jeremy Sorese and BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia will present a tale of love, loss, and sex robots. “The Short While,” written and drawn by Sorese, will follow two men who fall in love in a future filled with androids and speaking doors. But while many elements of the story are fantastical, Sorese describes the project as “unintentionally autobiographical,” calling it the byproduct of the years he spent working on it.
“What I’ve come to appreciate in making books that take five years to finish is that they become time capsules full of every phase, obsession, love, and frustration I’ve had in the process of making it,” he says of the book.
BOOM! Executive Editor Sierra Hahn added, “Jeremy has captured the resplendence of love found and love lost in his epic new graphic novel that depicts the deeply moving story of a relationship in a near-distant future between two men who, like the rest of us, are looking for ‘the person’ to whom they can entrust their hearts and souls.”
Sorese was nominated for the Lambda for his 2015 graphic novel “Curveball,” itself a sci-fi tale of the highs and lows of relationships. Previous works include “And Your Little Dog Too,” an illustrated memoir of his family’s last pets, and “What It Feels Like To Have A Chronic Illness,” a chronicle of his struggles with ulcerative colitis.
“The Short While” will be available in print and digitally in November of this year. Previews are available on The Beat and BOOM! Studios’s website.
