LOOK ALIVE, SUNSHINE! Revealed with the upcoming schedule for Dark Horse’s NYCC 2012, it looks like the long-awaited comic is finally arriving with news at the con: “The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.”
An adaptation of My Chemical Romance’s last album (Danger Days which we reviewed), this project has been a long time coming — so long in fact that we talked about it with Becky Cloonan at last year’s NYCC. The story takes place in post-apocalyptic California in 2019, starring alter-egos of the band members: Party Poison, Jet Star, Fun Ghoul and Kobra Kid. The four fight against the evil incorporation Better Living Industries (or BL/ind) and their Draculoids and exterminators, such as Korse (portrayed by Grant Morrison in the music videos). Originally planned as a six-issue mini for 2010, it had since been delayed.
Now it would appear that Gerard Way will be co-writing it with Shaun Simon, who tours as a keyboard player with MCR and has been attached to the project since 2009, with Cloonan still on art duties accompanied by Dave Stewart and Nate Piekos. On top of that, according to Simon’s Wikipedia, Scott Allie – the man who edits BPRD and Hellboy comics for your enjoyment – will be editing this book.
Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? How about we whet your appetite with the first ever showing of what Becky’s Killjoys will look like from 2010’s Rock Sound magazine:

Yeah. This is going to be pretty great.
Bonus: Here’s the Killjoys illustrated by Gabriel Ba, who illustrated Way’s “Umbrella Academy.”
