Today Newsarama announced that before we see his return as a writer in Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, the acclaimed Allan Heinberg will have an unsolicited bonus story in the pages of Uncanny X-Men #526. This story will focus primarily on Cyclops, Magneto, Wolverine and Doctor Nemesis, but may also be of particular interest to those interested in the upcoming Children’s Crusade.
“[Marvel] Editor Nick Lowe felt that this story could shed some light on the X-Men’s relationship to – and feelings about – the Young Avengers,” Heinberg said. “Particularly in light of Magneto’s possibly being Wiccan and Speed’s grandfather.”
Even more exciting is the talent Heinberg will be working with for this short tale: the incredible Oliver Coipel. Heinberg talked about how much he enjoyed the work of Coipel, and how excited he was to finally work with him.
Leaving us with a tease, Newsarama asked Heinberg if he had any other plans involving Marvel’s mighty mutants, seeing as he was an assistant to the famous Chris Claremont back in the day.
“If the X-Office will have me,” he said, “I’d love to write more X-Men stories.”
