Bleeding Cool theorized it. Comic Book Resources expanded on it. Just this past weekend in an interview I did with “The Walking Dead” artist Charlie Adlard (which you can read in its entirety next week), it was confirmed: “The Walking Dead” #100 will be the top selling book of July.
When discussing the increasing sales, Adlard shared, “Issue #100 is the #1 book,” adding, “it’s such a horrendous cliche to say, but it is an utter surprise. I never would have believed that my career would have taken this path and I would be working on the #1 comic in the industry.”
He also added with a laugh, “it won’t be the #1 book in issue #101, but at least I can say I worked on a #1 book in the U.S. comic book industry.”
Obviously we are a long way out from final numbers given that no actual comics have come out this month yet, but with the momentum of the book, the massive hype, and the FIFTEEN covers, this is in no way surprising.
A huge congrats to everyone involved, from Robert Kirkman and Mr. Adlard himself (always a great sport in interviews) to the rest of the team at Skybound and Image Comics. What a wild ride it’s been, and this is definitely a book that has been deserving of its success. It’s a real creator-owned dream book, in many, many ways.
Now just don’t go killing off Rick, okay?
