Last year when “The Walking Dead” premiered, it opened with an all-time high for ratings on AMC. Then the ratings went up from there, culminating in a high for the show on the finale.
Now, with last night’s premiere, those numbers have been killed. The initial look at it shows that:
– 7.3 million people watched the premiere live
– 11 million watched one of the two airings of the premiere
– 3.8 million people in the 18-49 age group watched the premiere
Those are all massive numbers, but perhaps the best is the last number. Advertisers love the 18-49 audience because it is the biggest spending group, and the premiere managed to launch with the highest 18-49 number in basic cable history.
Outrageous.
