With buzz pouring out of its undead ears and excitement being bolstered thanks to a Halloween launch, it seemed predetermined that “The Walking Dead,” the AMC adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s (and Charlie Adlard/Tony Moore) Image comic book series, would be a hit.
That it ended up becoming the highest rated show (5.3 million viewers) in the history of AMC (over critical darlings like “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad”) and in the process becoming the highest rated cable debut in the vaunted 18-49 demographic in the process…well, that was a little bit more surprising.
That’s huge news, and congrats to everyone involved – Robert Kirkman, Frank Darabont, Gale Anne Hurd, Andrew Lincoln, etc. etc. – for making this a huge hit and a damn fine television show.
Here’s hoping TV will realize this means a “Preacher” or “DMZ” or “Y the Last Man” series would work as well.
