"Thor 2" Director Announced

After a lot of build up, the decision has been made: Patty Jenkins will be the director of the next Thor film.

Which, you know, is an interesting decision. While Kenneth Branagh (director of the first Thor) was not a seasoned veteran of the world of special effects in movies, he had a lengthy career and a lot of industry love behind him. And he was still questioned. Jenkins has a rather short career-to-date, with only one feature effort under her belt (2003’s “Monster” with the Oscar winning Charlize Theron) and a few times directing TV (most prominently, the well-received and feature length pilot of AMC’s “The Killing” as well as some “Entourage” and “Arrested Development” work). She’s a quality director, assuredly, but stands out as an odd choice for a blockbuster tentpole from the typically meticulous Marvel Studios.

But odds are, if anyone knows, Kevin Feige knows. I’m sure it will turn out fine, it just happens to be an odd decision on the surface.
