It’s Thor vs. Hulk in the new Thor: Ragnarok Trailer

It’s a good time to be a fan of superhero movies. We got Justice League and Spider-Man: Homecoming trailers dropping last week and now the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok dropped this morning, giving us the first look at the upcoming intergalactic adventure.

“Now I know what you’re thinking. How did this happen? Well it’s a long story.”

Clearly, things are not going well for Thor as he is lowered into a pit in chains before we get a look at Cate Blanchett’s Hela catching Mjolnir mid-flight and shattering it into pieces before cutting to that familiar Marvel Studios logo.

We get looks at Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) serving the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) with shots of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Heimdall (Idris Elba) scattered intermittently until finally what we are all waiting for: Thor squares off with his “friend from work” Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in the arena.

What’s the most surprising is how fun and retro this trailer feels. From the fancy neon lighting of the movie title to the music playing in the background, this movie feels more Guardians of the Galaxy-esque than Thor: The Dark World. What’s clear here is that this is a different Thor, a less hairy Thor, than we have seen before.

Directed by Taika Waititi from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, Thor: Ragnarok comes to Midgard November 3, 2017.
