Just in time for it’s big screen companion, Marvel’s animated Thor: Tales Of Asgard will be coming out on DVD and Blu-ray on May 17th, 2011.

According to the press release, “The story will go back to Thor’s earlier years, before he ever lifted his mighty hammer. It follows the upstart god’s quest for the legendary Lost Sword of Surtur. To help in the search, Thor teams up with his loyal brother Loki, a budding sorcerer with a knack for conjuring up trouble, and the fabled Warriors Three, a band of boastful travelers. But what starts out as a harmless treasure hunt quickly turns deadly, and Thor must now prove himself worthy of his destiny by saving Asgard itself.”

The DVD/Blu-ray will also come with features from producer Craig Kyle, screenwriter Greg Johnson, and more, as well as an episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In addition to that nice Alex Ross cover, it looks like you’re getting quite the pretty package with this. It’s being obviously timed for release with the live action film, so hopefully new fans and old will be able to get their Thor fix as they inevitably wait to see the live action film again, albeit in theaters or later on DVD/Blu-ray.

Either way, it’s hammer lost Asgardian sword time!

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
