As Robot 6 have keenly pointed out, Thor: The Mighty Avenger will be ending in January with issue #8 (much to fellow writer Josh’s chagrin).

Despite positive word of mouth amongst fans, it appears that the book’s sales just weren’t cutting it. Starting with sales at 20,000 for the first issue, the book has since dropped down below 10,000 with the 5th issue. The book did take a much more light hearted look at Thor, featuring a wide array of characters and fitting into Marvel’s Thor push as they gear up for the release of their new film. However, in a world of 8 Thor books, it looks like there just isn’t enough room for two ongoings.

A Marvel spokesman has noted that the end will be satisfying for fans, but never the less it’ll be sad to see the book go if only because of Chris Samnee’s very eye-catching artwork. It looks like we’ll all have to settle for mean and grumpy Thor over in Fraction’s book!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
