In addition to the announced “Hunt” tie-in to Marvel’s big event, today saw the announcement of “The Heist” over at Newsarama.

Written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by Al Barrionuevo, the four-issue mini finds Spymaster recruiting some villains to pull a score from Stark Enterprises while all the heroes are doing their things in space. It seems that some villains are taking up the general looting mentality that comes along with massive chaotic destruction from a nefarious alien god attacking New York, and while the Mighty Avengers (also recently announced) have their hands full on one end the villains run around on the other.

Tieri, who has a good history with writing tough and darker characters (see: all his work with Wolverine and Weapon X), seems like a good match for telling this kind of story, describing it as Reservoir Dogs, Ocean’s Eleven and The Usual Suspects with Blizzard and Unicorn (remember him?). Barrionuevo also has a great history with darker characters, having worked on Martian Manhunter and various Batman properties, including the return of Hush. It’ll be interesting to see his take on some of these villains, especially a guy like Unicorn who, you know, isn’t really around that often because most people aren’t afraid of a villain named Unicorn.

The book sounds intriguing overall. Lets see if they can pull it off.

(Get it??)

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
