I think that, if there is one thing that we as a theoretical group of people can agree on, it is that Calvin and Hobbes is the best strip ever of all time ever (of all time). Full of charm, wit and heart, the strip is easily just one of those comics that continues to reach generation after generation, and it always manages to stay with us long after the fact.
I suppose that’s why whenever a new Calvin and Hobbes homage is created, I usually meet it with smiles and hand claps, and such is certainly the case for Timothy Lim’s adorable Peter and Venom. Created for t-shirts over at RedBubble under his moniker ninjaink, Lim has designed for homages replacing Calvin with a young Peter Parker and Hobbes with the alien symbiote that gave him his black suit.
As Lim writes,
Peter and Venom is a syndicated daily comic strip that was written, illustrated, and syndicated from August 1963 to the present. It follows the humorous antics of Peter, a precocious, intelligent, and adventurous boy, and Venom, his brain-eating alien symbiote.
Spread across four t-shirts or hoodies (which you can find here, here, here and here), the images are pretty excellent, fully done in Watterson’s signature style. While we often see tributes like this (such as Locke and Key v4 #1 or on other t-shirts), they never cease to put smiles on faces.
Check out three more images after the cut, and pat Timothy Lim on the back if you ever get the chance.
