For all the Monkeybrain books currently available, “Bandette” is possibly my favorite. (Goodbye, objectivity.) Tobin and Coover go to well like peanut butter and jelly, and they’ve proven it time and time again; “Bandette” is simply the latest and greatest from a very successful duo.

So it is with great excitement that we can share with you that the “Bandette” universe is expanding into shorts featuring characters from the book. Tobin will be writing alongside some other great artists short comics to help show off the wide cast of characters seen so far in “Bandette” for “Urchin Stories,” starting with this two-page short with Steve Leiber. The short stars B.D. Belgique, and since a picture is worth a thousand words allow me to give you two thousand on why you should read “Bandette:”

Absolutely charming.

For the full press release from Monkeybrain, please see below. “Bandette” is on sale now through Comixology.

Monkeybrain Press Release

Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover’s BANDETTE has been one of the runaway hits of the Monkeybrain Comics launch, winning praise from readers and critics alike. And while Tobin and Coover are busy working on the next installment of everyone’s favorite thief with a heart of gold, they have enlisted the aid of other artists for a series of brief vignettes about the supporting characters in Bandette’s world.

Bandette is the star of the show, but her world is populated by a wealth of other amusing characters. Who are they? What are their dreams? Their idiosyncrasies? Their loves and hopes and, for gosh sakes, what food pictures are they posting to Instagram?!!? Get to know all the supporting characters from Bandette in these short stories by a wealth of talented guest artists.

In this first two page preview of BANDETTE: URCHIN STORIES, Paul Tobin and Steve Leiber give us a glimpse into the life of B.D. Belgique, perhaps the most harassed police inspector of all time.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
