We’d known about “Q2: The Return of Quantum and Woody” for some time now, announced at last year’s New York Comic Con, but the deal just got a whole lot sweeter.
So, first things first: as revealed at Comic Book Resources, “Q2” will release this October 15th, 20 years after the end of the original Valiant series. Edited by current “Quantum and Woody” editor Alejandro Arbona, the book features an all new story from the classic creators, though it’s currently unknown how it will relate to their original run, if at all (though in a 2013 interviewwith Priest, he does allude that there are some connections, obviously).
But therein lies the best news: their original run is finally, finally being reprinted:

Collecting #0-21 and #32 of the original series, as well as “The Goat: HAEDUS” one-shot and “X-O Manowar” #16, this is the Complete “Quantum and Woody” Omnibus, my friends. Not only that, but the book will also feature the backup stories present in the original “Quantum and Woody” trades (which are, honestly, pretty wild), as well as a never-before-collected short story called ‘Thunk’ and apparently more, such as sketches, character designs, promo material — all in a 600+ page hardcover slated for release on the same day as the new mini.
It’s $99, but it’s totally worth it. As someone who struggled to collected the trade paperbacks (they’re more than just out of print at this point), this is one of those times where I’m more than happy to double dip. “Quantum and Woody” was decidedly a book ahead of its time, something that we can only look back on in hindsight and lament that we all didn’t collectively support it more. But now is your chance.
So if you’re a fan of the current “Quantum and Woody,” this is an excellent jaunt into the past. If you’re a fan of the classic “Quantum and Woody,” it’s equally a time to celebrate. And if you can’t wait, all of the original run of “Quantum and Woody” is available through Valiant on ComiXology. Try the first couple issues; I dare you not to get hooked.
