Todd McFarlane Shoulders Blame For Image United Delays, Promises It’ll Be Back Soon

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Image United – six months to be precise. Last time we had Image United, we were on issue 2 and a large amount of villains were about to attack Youngblood HQ. So what’s been holding us up?

Well, the idea behind Image United was that every artist would be drawing their individual characters within the pages. This meant that Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri and Jim Valentino would all be returning to their trademark characters – and same with Image founder Todd McFarlane. However, when interviewed by CBR, McFarlane stated:

“It’s completely my fault and nobody else’s,” he told CBR News when asked about the current status of “Image United.” McFarlane cited his busy schedule and “complicated life” as major factors in the delays, saying: “I warned everybody in advance that I’ve got a complicated life, so be careful what you’re wishing for!”

McFarlane promises that the issue will be heavy with his art as it features a lot of his characters and the new villainous Omega Spawn. On top of that, McFarlane revealed something quite odd – Omega Spawn is not actually Al Simmons, which was the original purpose of that plot. Apparently, Omega Spawn is only kind of Al Simmons. Those that read Spawn #196 saw that it was revealed the only reason Al Simmons killed himself is because he understood that the battle between Heaven and Hell needed to change and he managed to transfer the powers to “Jim.” McFarlane also confirmed that in a Kirkman written segment of Spawn #200, all would be revealed.

As of now, Image United #3 does not have a new release date. However, keep tuned for any updated information we get.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
