“Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade” doesn’t conclude with issue #4 until April 4, but Dark Horse have announced another four-issue limited series, “Tomb Raider: Inferno.” Starting in June, the follow-up will also be written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, and will also see the return of artist Phillip Sevy, who penciled Mariko Tamaki’s 2016 series.

The sequel will continue Lara Croft’s struggle against the nefarious organization Trinity, who send an equally hardened new operative to take her out. Lanzing told Polygon that in “Survivor’s Crusade,” they had “been slowly sharpening the weapon that is Lara Croft. Now, in ‘Inferno,’ Lara’s unleashing that weapon against the enemy. Trinity’s only hope lies in a weapon of their own — a new character who hits our story like a wrecking ball in Issue #1.”

The co-writer also promised the comic will contain “the oldest tomb in the world — a seemingly endless pit that only gets more and more incredible and mysterious the further down you go.”

2018 is set to be a big year for Tomb Raider fans, with a new movie based on the 2013 reboot starring Alicia Vikander set for release on March 16, 2018, and a third entry in the current game series set to be unveiled soon. “Tomb Raider: Inferno” #1 is out June 13, 2018.

I wonder who this new character is? Hopefully its not Whatshisname from The Ten Thousand Immortals because he was just so boring. Also I want Sam to return along with Jonah as I don’t want Lara to end up bitter, lonely and cold person. She deserves better than that, Sam deserves better than that and the fans differently deserve better than that.

Sam is a great character who could join the ranks of Ellie, Varric, Garrus, Ciri, Nadine and Cortana as one of video games truly great video game companions. Please let her return at least be hinted at in this arc.

      • While it would be nice to see how Sam is doing, unfortunately as Rhianna Pratchett has left Crystal Dynamics it seems they want to start with a clean slate before the next game; from what Lanzing said, it seems they want to have Lara become closer to her original incarnation, who was very much a lone wolf.

Then why resolve the the whole Sam being possessed by Himiko arc? The reason that plot was created, the only one, was to give Sam a concrete reason to not be involved in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Said reason was just shot in the foot, thrown into space, fell into star only for said star to go supernova. After which it turned into a black hole which then mysteriously vanished without explanation which has left scientist scratching their heads.

Also, what about Zip, Winston and Alister? Sure classic Lara didn’t have much of a supporting cast but from what I’ve gathered she also didn’t have much of a rogue gallery either it was mostly just Lara just getting to treasure and fighting monsters and wild animals.

Not trying to start a argument or anything I’m just saying that Lara didn’t seem to be that much of a lone wolf and I see no benefit in removing Sam given that she is A) more popular then people seem to realize and B) as I said before, she’s a great character who deserves better.

If Batman, Geralt, Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer, Zuko, Agent Carolina, The Doctor, Buffy Summers and Indiana Jones can admit to needing help then so can Lara. And Sam is a strong enough character who could help Lara carry the series.
