Artist Tommy Castillo (“Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight,” “Detective Comics”) passed away on June 24th from complications tied to diabetes. Castillo’s health had been on a sharp decline since 2014. Tommy is survived by his wife Sammy who shared an incredibly heartfelt and moving goodbye on Tommy’s Facebook Page. He was 46 years old.

Tommy was best known for his incredibly diverse, intense and detailed artwork. Some of the highlights from his comic work include the aforementioned “Detective Comics,” “Legends of the Dark Knight,” “Toe Tags,” with horror legend George Romero (Night of the Living Dead), and “Evil Ernie.” Tommy also had the unique experience of working outside the comics industry by producing storyboards and designs work for Paramount Pictures, Warhammer, Wizards of the Coast, Fangoria and Rolling Stone magazine.

Tommy was a beloved figure in the comic-book community, a consistent figure on the convention scene as long as his health would allow it and a beloved husband. Tommy’s wife Sammy has set up a fundraiser to help pay for the pending funeral and is now accepting donations.

We picked a few pieces to feature of Castillo’s, and we send our thoughts to his family, friends, and fellow fans.
