Announced on his Facebook page (and spotted well before we did), it looks like Tony Daniel is wrapping up his “Detective Comics” run after the #0 issue in September, although he assures fans that this won’t be the last time he draws the Dark Knight. Daniel writes,

My Batman/Detective run is coming to an end. My final written (and drawn) issue is Detective Comics #12. I’ll be producing the art only for issue 0. It’s been a long and adventurous journey for me, but there are other projects in the pipeline that I’ve been itching to do and I felt the need to scratch the itch. Next week DC will reveal some information on what one of the projects is I’m involved with. Then I’m gearing up for something I’ve wanted to do for a while in early 2013, a project where I hope to grow even more as an artist and a professional. It is top secret, and probably won’t be revealed until the fall. I want to thank all my friends, family and fans for supporting me through these crazy last few years. Onward and Upward!

Tony Daniel has been working on the Batman franchise for some time now, working with Grant Morrison (and illustrating the heck out of “Batman RIP”) before taking over as writer and artist for “Battle for the Cowl”, a pre-relaunch run on “Batman” and then moving to “Detective Comics” post-relaunch. It has been a fairly divisive run with memorable moments (like the Joker getting his face cut off as well as the bloodbath), but “Detective Comics” has been in the Top 10 selling comics of any given month, so kudos to Daniel for that.

It is unknown at this time who will take over for Daniel. Greg Hurwitz is co-writing the #0 issue, but it has been confirmed that he will not be taking over the title.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
