If we’re going to talk about Doctor Who, we should talk a bit about Torchwood as well, right?
Set to premiere July 8th, the British covert ops team is coming to America, just as the Doctor did! Apparently some kind of “miracle” happens in which nobody dies, and it’s up to the remnants of the Torchwood team to figure out what is causing it. Previously titled “The New World,” it picks up some time after the last series, which I have been completely unshy about calling the best science fiction mini-series of 2009 (and, not coincidently, the only series of Torchwood I own). And now we have a trailer for it, as well as an Access Hollywood voice over that is completely neccesary (of course).
I guess I should note that the trailer does technically contain spoilers for previous Torchwood series, so be warned of that. But this is the first series that is being telecast for Starz and an American audience that might have never seen Torchwood. However, if you’re a Who fan, it is somewhat worth checking out. The connections between the first two seasons of Torchwood and the second and third seasons of Doctor Who are amusing, and it also makes the season four finale make a bit more sense.
