Skelton Crew Studios make high-quality replicas for several comics series. Among their line is the B.P.R.D. Artifact Archive, 1:1 sized replicas of various artifacts from Mike Mignola’s Hellboy Universe. Each item is an exquisite work of art with incredible care taken in the details, but this upcoming artifact promises to be something extra special.

In Hellboy: The Troll-witch, Hellboy was given a wooden spoon by an old witch.

And now this spoon is being added to the B.P.R.D. Artifact Archive. This is the largest artifact yet, measuring 19 inches (48 cm). Designed by Israel Skelton, based on Mike Mignola’s art, each spoon is hand-carved from solid cherry. Each will come bagged, tagged, and boxed in the B.P.R.D. Artifact Archive packaging, as though it had come straight from the Bureau’s archives in the comics.

This item has taken a while to produce as each one is hand carved. Below you can see master craftsman Cass Bartlett working on the spoons at Skelton Crew Studios in Maine.

There’s also an extra: the calling cards of the Lobster in a leather case. These won’t be released separately; they’ll only be available with the Troll-witch’s Spoon.

The Lobster's Calling Cards

The Troll-witch’s Spoon and the Lobster’s calling cards should go on sale in about three weeks, retailing around $150 (exact pricing is still being determined). Only 50 spoons will be made and Mike Mignola will be signing the tags. So now you can ride down into Trollheim on a goatand kill a pile of trolls if you wish.

Or, if you’re a more peaceful sort, wait for the trolls to leave their cave in the evening, and lay the spoon across the entrance; the trolls daren’t cross over it, and when the rising sun finds them, they’ll turn to stone.

I’ll include a link in March’s Mignolaversity News Update, but if you want to keep up to date, I recommend following Israel Skelton on Twitter or Facebook, or sign up to their newsletter. Also, check out their other items already in the archive.

Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo’s “Giant Robot Hellboy” wraps up with a bang (or should I say boom?) in this final issue as we finally meet the true titular character. And yet this story leaves a lot of dangling threads. This is clearly the beginning of something much bigger. As usual, this being a review […]
