Via The Hollywood Reporter. Random House Graphic has announced a graphic novel adaptation of Turtle in Paradise, the award winning middle-grade novel from Jennifer L. Holm. Adapting the book is artist Savanna Ganucheau.

Originally published in 2010, Turtle in Paradise follows an 11-year old girl named Turtle, who is growing up during the Great Depression. Her mother takes a housekeeping job for a woman who despises children, so Turtle is sent to Key West, Florida, to live with an aunt she has never met. While adjusting to her new home, she and her cousins finds themselves pulled into an adventure revealing long-kept family secrets, and a map leading to buried pirate treasure.

The book won both the John Newbery Medal from the Association for Library Service to Children, and the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, in 2011. It was the third Newbery for Holm, who has since won a California Book Awards Gold Medal (2014) and an E. B. White Read Aloud Award (2015) for her novel The Fourteenth Goldfish. In 2013, she was awarded the Best Publication for Early Readers Eisner for “Babymouse for President,” featuring art from her brother Matthew Holm.

Ganucheau is an accomplished artist, having worked on properties such as “Adventure Time” for BOOM! Studios, and “Jem and the Holograms” for IDW. Her webcomic ”George and Johnny” has been running since 2015. In 2019, she released her first graphic novel “Bloom,” with writer Kevin Panetta.

“Turtle in Paradise” hits shelves on May 4, 2021, and is available for pre-order wherever books are sold. Previews are available from The Hollywood Reporter.
