Via The Mary Sue, Disney have unveiled “Part of Your World: A Twisted Tale Graphic Novel,” based on one of the novels from their series A Twisted Tale, which imagines “what if?” scenarios for their classic films. The book, adapted by writer Stephanie Kate Strohm and artists Kelly & Nichole Matthews from Liz Braswell’s 2018 novel of the same name, takes place in a world where The Little Mermaid ended with Ariel being defeated by Ursula, who conquered Prince Eric’s kingdom.

Five years later, and still without her voice, Ariel has taken up her father’s throne and trident. When she learns her father may be still alive, Ariel returns to the surface world, where she learns Ursula has been waging war on several neighboring kingdoms. When the former sea witch “catches wind of Ariel’s resurfacing, she threatens to obliterate both land and sea. Will Ariel be able to overthrow the murderous villain bent on destroying her home — along with the world she once longed to be a part of?”

The book is being released by Disney without a partner like IDW Publishing or Dark Horse Comics, who stopped publishing Disney comics early last year. Since then, Disney and Pixar have released graphic novelizations of their most recent films directly through another behemoth, Random House. Writer Stephanie Kate Strohm is no stranger to Disney Press, having co-written the upcoming Shakespeare-inspired OGN series, ‘Arden High,’ the first installment of which, “Twelfth Grade Night,” drops on October 11. Twin sister art team Kelly and Nichole Matthews previously created (along with R.L. Stine) the BOOM! Studios series “Just Beyond,” that was adapted into the Disney+ series of the same name.

“Part of Your World” will be released on June 13, 2023, shortly after the release of the live-action Little Mermaid remake (starring Halle Bailey as Ariel) on May 26. In the meantime, you can check out several preview pages at The Mary Sue, as well as the latest Twisted Tale novel, Farrah Rochon’s Princess and the Frog remix Almost There, when it releases on September 6.
