J. Michael Straczynski is returning to AWA Studios’ superhero-centric Resistance Universe, with artist Mike Choi and letterer Sal Cipriano in tow, for the six-part romance “U And I.” The comic follows Isabelle, a down-on-her-luck woman who falls in love with the Reborn vigilante known only as U. “A different type of flame ignites what is sure to lead to explosive consequences when U runs afoul of a crime syndicate, that will stop at nothing to get revenge.”
Axel Alonso, AWA’s chief creative officer, says “‘U And I’ shows the endless possibilities in the Resistance Universe with an unexpected romance between a superhero and the protagonist, Isabelle. This action-packed, thrilling love story is both a perfect way to introduce readers to the world of Reborns, and ‘U And I’ can also be read as a standalone story.”
Straczynski launched the Resistance Universe with the eponymous series in 2020, featuring art by Mike Deodato Jr. The comic imagined a world where survivors of a deadly pandemic, known as the Great Death, found themselves becoming superhumans known as the Reborns. He previously collaborated with Choi and Cipriano on the 2021 spin-off “Moths,” which took a more tragic approach to the genre, telling the story of a Reborn who could use her power, but at the cost of only having six months to live.
“U And I” will begin just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 7, 2024. In the meantime, check out a preview below.
