Revealed today over at Entertainment Weekly, a partial image of an upcoming Joe Quesada-illustrated Marvel Comics cover shows that none other than Jean “Famously Dead” Grey might have to drop her nickname soon.
Now, as I’m sure all comic fans will note, she appears to be in her Marvel Girl outfit, which could very well mean that the book she is “returning” in is some kind of flashback. There is a lot of speculation about Marvel doing something similar to the DC Reboot (which featured brand new continuity), so it is highly possible that at the end of “Avengers Vs X-Men” we may get some kind of revisionist history book (and, if Rich Johnston’s predictions are right, it’ll be written by Bendis).
However, for now, all we know is from this note from Entertainment Weekly:
Yes, this is Jean Grey – as in, the Jean Grey who’s been absent from Marvel comics ever since dying for a second time back in the mid-00s. And yes, she is modeling her vintage blue-and-yellow X-Men outfit from her Marvel Girl days. Does this mean that the fan-favorite character is finally returning? We can only confirm that her presence in the Marvel universe will not be imaginary. This will not be part of the Ultimate line-up. She will not be a zombie hologram, like Shard on X-Factor.
EW says all will be revealed tomorrow, so get your fanboy/girl pitchforks and torches ready now, I suppose.
